As claimed:
The Lello 4070 Gelato Junior is a perfect ice cream machine – in the sense, it makes the forever demand for an inbuilt compressor get an answer – capable of going down below –4 degrees F, considered the minimum freezing temperature. The Simac Gelato Junior and 30 minutes in hand satisfies even the craziest cravings for chilled confections, frozen drinks and chilled soups. The compressor freezer stays functional throughout the churning process keeping the temperature from rising; this also aids when multiple flavors are on the list.
Precise timekeeping is a part of quality food preparation and the Gelato Junior sports a 60-minute electronic timer. As an added advantage, an automatic sound mechanism alerts in case the integrated spatula blade stops rotating. The rest of the parts are the usual removable, freezing bowl (1 quart), a transparent lid and a slim opening to allow ingredients at the latter stages.
The Jelato Junior weighs a flat 31 pounds; not lightweight, but sleeker than the rest in its clan. The booklet of tasty recipes is not missing as well; additionally, there have been put forth some dessert sauce recipes to go with the ice cream scoops.

Quite a few many were astonished upon receiving a Simac product after ordering the Gelato; it is still not clear why the company named the machine Lello 4070 Gelato Junior and not Simac 4070… but it is that way. Being Simac would have also delivered the same great results. The Gelato Junior is not a good machine unless there is a strong person in the house. That said, the larger, heavier built is due to the self-contained compressor and this is a great step towards making the bucket retain its ultra-low temperature. It’s also not a good option for more than four people at a time, but mastering the machine allows belting out batches one after another.
Contrary to the general idea of “powerful is noisy”, the Gelato Junior ice cream machine is amazingly low-noise in its operations, though requiring more time than specified in the instructional booklet. With the timer on, there’s no chance of missing out on the ending notes.
One thing here, the timer just buzzes; it doesn’t end the machine’s function. The machine shuts off automatically if there is a chance for mechanical damage occurring from overly condensed ingredients opposing the turning paddle.
As found:
Definitely light years ahead of those hand crank and salt/ice machines and even their electrical versions, the Lello 4070 Gelato Junior is convenience packed with ease of use. Requiring only dumping all ingredients into the bucket before putting it on, the Lello ice cream machine gets to work right immediately after the mix leaves the stove. The built in compressor is a powerful thing that doesn’t talk much; only needs being alerted (read: switched on) a few minutes prior to the arrival of the mix. The sound it makes is far lower than that of a microwave oven turning; or, a dishwasher. A little effort is enough to think it as silent as a digital clock.
It shall be better if Simac could reconsider the size of the ingredient chute; not all are as small as M&M-s. Among bigger changes, the 4070 could be given an automated mechanism that’ll shut off the churning (but not the compressor) as soon as the timer rings; also, a reduction in weight shall be welcome.
All in All:
An unit that’s relatively smaller than the big capacity giants, the Lello 4070 Gelato Junior is a convenient piece of machine that can be taken to places. Price or performance, it beats them all. Sure there are available machines with larger buckets almost for the same price, but when it comes to home use, this quite, little, gentle giant is an apparatus with apparently no shortcomings.
